The turn of the year 2005/2006 was especially rich in the scientific events. In 2005 the worldwide International Scientific Conference on Achievements in Mechanical and Materials Engineering was organised for the 13th time in Wisła, Poland. It was a part of the Worldwide Congress on Materials and Manufacturing Engineering and Technology COMMENT'2005. The event was a great success and ca. 1500 scientific staff from ca. 50 countries of the world participated in it. It is when the idea of the foundation of the Association of Computational Materials Science and Surface Engineering which was shortly registered in the Court. The Association is open for all fellows from the country and the world working in the field of science and education. There also took place the consultations connected with the creation of the academy of sciences called the World Academy of Materials and Manufacturing Engineering which after the action of on-line registrations was founded on 7th December 2005 in Zakopane, Poland during the consecutive International Scientific Conference on Contemporary Achievements in Mechanics, Manufacturing and Materials Science. Its President and the rest of the members of its Presidium and the Steering Committee were chosen then
The symbol of the Academy is an owl, an ancient Greek, Athenian symbol of wisdom which appears inits logo, agendas, events and the form of activity. That international Academy of Sciences which will be soon registered in the Court consists of 130 outstanding scientists - professors from 45 countries of the world, from all the continents, who were invited to it. Among them there are many doctors honoris causa, members of other country academies of sciences, editors-in-chief of numerous journals, chairmen of programme and organising committees of numerous important scientific conferences. The candidates for such a choice were presented by the resolutions of the Association of Computational Materials Science and Surface Engineering. The Presidium of the World AMME will make the complementary election among further candidates fulfilling such high requirements in order to broaden the makeup of the academy to ca. 200 fellows, including honorary ones and increasing its territorial range in the near future. Every year during the consecutive conferences of AMME series the General Assembly of that Academy will take place. As a result of the agreement between the World AMME and ACMS&SE the own publishing house was founded called the International OCSCO World Press which took over the publication of all publications of those organisations. It was decided to begin the publication of the Worldwide Journal of Achievements in Materials and Manufacturing Engineering which first number dated January 2006 reached P.T. Readers. It was also decided that it is a continuation of the Proceedings of Achievements of Mechanical and Materials Engineering printed for 13 years and published yearly since 1992 in the framework of the worldwide International Scientific conferences of successful series AMME and numerously cited in the world literature. That is why the first volume is numbered as 14. The Journal is published monthly. Yearly 6 volumes are foreseen and each of them will consist of 2 issues. It will be a normal practice that sometimes both issues of a given volume will be published altogether. Usually one volume will consist of ca. 200 pages and a single issue - ca. 100 pages. The publication of Special Issues which will include the proceedings of scientific conferences especially of the consecutive AMME and CAM3S and also of others, under which the scientific patronage of the World Academy of Materials and Manufacturing Engineering will be taken, is foreseen. In such cases the capacity of a given volume or an issue can be much bigger, although only the publication of 4-page short papers is available then. Usually it can be much wider
- research,
technical,
conceptual (invited) papers,
literature review (invited)
and general review (invited).
Case studies or viewpoint can be also published after the previous agreements with the Editor.
Informing about publication and technical novelty, planned conferences and scientific events and other current information is also foreseen.
I am convinced that that Journal will be very useful for the Authors in many countries of the world and the popularisation of their scientific achievements and scientific profiles and also the promotion on the scientific arena of their scientific centres. I do count that the frequent citation in many other journals and especially those which are in abstracting services especially by the Science Citation Index will allow on the achievement of the suitable impact factor which will ensure also the citation of that Journal by those abstracting services. I do count on the huge interest of authors in the publication of their papers in that Journal. The high level is surely guaranteed by the outstanding makeup of editors and members of the Editorial Board from a few dozen or so countries of the world. I would like to thank them that they took the difficulty of work in that body and in the co-creation of that Journal. I also count on the journal promotion by them in their mother countries and the international arena and the spread of the free promotional copies of the first publications in those countries and the achievement of subscribers. I also wait for the proposals of the publication of proceedings, at least chosen papers, of the scientific conferences organised by them. I wish all P.T. Readers a lot of satisfaction from reading the next publications of our Journal and joy of the publication of their own papers. The next volumes and issues of that journal will reach P.T. Readers in the near future.
